Ukrzaliznytsia plans in 2014 to buy 50 passenger cars, 15 diesel trains from KCBW

State Railways Administration of Ukraine Ukrzaliznytsia has prepared proposals for the Cabinet of Ministers on placing orders at Kriukov Car Building Works (KCBW) for the production of 50 passenger wagons and 15 diesel trains in the current year.

In particular it wants to order nine sleeping coaches, 25 compartment cars and 16 second-class cars.

It is planned to attract credit resources from European and American financial institutions under government guarantees. According to preliminary calculations, the purchase of 50 passenger cars will cost about UAH 725 million, and the purchase of 15 diesel trains more than UAH 900 million.

On April 16 Ukrzaliznytsia specialists headed by chief of the department of passenger transportation Yevhen Dykhne visited KCBW to study the capacity and readiness of domestic enterprises to produce new and modernize passenger cars, increasing their lifetime by an average of 15 years.

The analysis of production facilities directly at the enterprise is carried out to acquire new passenger rolling stock at the expense of foreign borrowings under state guarantees, which the Cabinet of Ministers is ready to provide.

The localization of production at KCBW could reach 80%.
